Crazy basketball fans in Kumasi are gathering momentum for the first ever Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) basketball championship on Saturday April 9.

The event sponsored by Communication giants TIGO is organised Rite Multimedia, an event management house in Accra.

The campus of  Kumasi Polytechnic will be the venue for the Ashanti and Brong Ahafo conference where four selected tertiary institutions battle it out for the ultimate title in the final zone to decide which other two will complete the list for the grand-finale in Accra.

Kumasi-based Garden City University and Christian Service University are among the sides confirmed to play in the one-day competition with Sunyani Polytechnic the only side coming outside the Ashanti region.
The four institutions are expected to produce a sell-out performance and bring fans on their feet at K-Poly with bragging rights, revenge and asserting dominance key on the agenda for the actors.

It’s make or break, do or die affair for the teams and Saturday’s meeting promises to be one humdinger of a game between the sides in an-all-play system.

The winner and the first runner up will advance to the next stage of the competition, the grand finale which comes off on  April 16th at the main basketball court of the University of Ghana and the losers will stay at home and watch the event on television.

Already two Universities- University of Education (Winneba) and University of Ghana (legon) alongside two Polytechnics – Takoradi Polytechnic and Accra Polytechnic have negotiated their qualification to the super finals.

The 2011 UPAC games is brought to you by Tigo – Express Yourself, supported by Red Bull Energy drink, Damte Global Publishers Ltd, (0244 851 926) basketballghana.com and powered by Rite Multimedia- leaders in basketball development and promotion in Ghana.
