Experienced coach Ishmael Wahab is unhappy with Ashanti Regional representation in the 2013 edition of the Sprite Ball Championship.

Previous winners Opoku Ware School and their age-long rivals Prempeh College alongside side Yaa Asantewaa have been selected to represent the second largest city in the annual championship in Accra.

Despite the improved performances of schools in the region, the three were selected based on their past achievement over the past three years.

Both Prempeh and Opoku Ware (Owass) have shared the title in-between them with Yaa Asantewaa defying all odds to win the national title last year.

The incredible feat chalked by the girls meant they got the nod ahead of the likes of Supreme Toase, Kumasi Anglican Senior High, Wesley Girls, Asanteman Girls, St Louis and Prince of Peace Girls (Popgiss) amongst others.

But the Asokwa team coach is unimpressed with the reasons given.

“Why are only three schools representing the Ashanti Region? he asked

“We have many great basketball teams in this region and so I would have thought the number could have been increased.

“I am just disappointed that only three are coming but nevertheless I believe they will make a huge mark in the finals.”
