spritelogoThe 2016 edition of the celebrated Sprite Ball Championship is set to place between January 3-7 at the El-Wak Stadium in Ghana’s capital, Accra and will have 26 schools compete in boys’ and girls’ categories respectively.

The qualified schools will play for a chance to win one of West Africa’s biggest basketball trophies.

Seven teams have been seeded for a live draw scheduled to be held live on TV 3’s Fast Break between 13:00 and 14:30 GMT on Sunday December 27.

The seeded teams in the boys’ division are defending champions Mfantsipim, Opoku Ware School, Presbyterian Boys Senior High School (Legon) and Pope John Senior High and Junior Seminary.

Defending champions T.I. Ahmediyya, Aggrey Memorial Mount Zion School and Mfantsiman Girls’ Senior High School have been seeded in the girls’ division.

Basketballghana.com looks at the seeded male teams of the draw.

Pot A will feature Mfantsipim School as the seeded team courtesy of being the defending champions. The four time champions go into next year’s tournament as the overwhelming favorites having made five consecutive finals appearances.

Pot B will have Opoku Ware School as the seeded team after capturing third place in last year’s edition. OWASS has found major success in the tournament in recent times as they have made the final four in back to back editions.

Pot C features Greater Accra Region’s Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School (Legon). The 2008 national champions got seeded by virtue of the absence of last year semifinalist, Bompeh who missed out on the tournament.

Pot D will have Pope John Senior High School and Junior Seminary as the seeded team. The Eastern Region representative makes the seeded grade on the account of rival Koforidua Secondary Technical School (K.S.T.S.) absence in the 2015 edition of Sprite Ball.
