The 2016 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC)Basketball Championship will be officially launched today on TV3 at 17:00 GMT.

The live event will also have the ultimate trophy 28 tertiary institutions will contest for, unveiled. With participating institutions already grouped into zones, the event will have a special draw to determine the sequence of games to be played in the main tournament.

Youth and Sports Minister designate Nii Lante Vanderpuye, Chairman of the Ghana Basketball Association David Addo Ashong and Chairman of the Greater Accra Basketball Association Benjamin Beifi have been invited.

Other guests expected to grace the program are Boxing Hall of Famer and basketball enthusiast Azumah Nelson, Rector of defending Champions Accra Polytechnic Sylvester Achio and representatives of corporate organizations associated with this year’s event.

The event will be hosted by basketball pundit Jake Morrison and have performances from ace Gospel musician Kofi Sarpong and rapper Lil Shaker.

Created in 2011, the UPAC Championship features all tertiary institutions in Ghana and has grown over the years to emerge as the biggest tertiary basketball competition. Accra Polytechnic has won the previous editions of the competition in consecutive fashion.

The third edition of the UPAC Championship is headlined by world best-selling deodorant brand Rexona and supported by CAL Bank, MTN and Fanyogo in partnership with TV3, Y FM, Basketballghana.com and Ghana Sports.
