University of Professional Studies (UPSA) made a winning start to their Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPSA) Basketball Championship journey following a 27-21 win over Valley View University at the Accra Polytechnic court on February 26 and that pleases the team.

The game formed part of two warm up games for the day as a curtain raiser to the main tournament and also as an avenue for teams to make final adjustments before the tournament commences. UPAC Championship, Ghana’s biggest tertiary basketball competition, will take place between March 5 and April 16.

Speaking to Basketballghana.com after clinching the win with virtually a second string side, star performer Emmanuel Baidoo and team mate Gideon made the call by saying:

“ It was cool to have a feel of the UPAC games which is coming on next week Saturday and we are hosts and we are definitely going to make it”. “UPSA is the best team and I don’t think any team can challenge us”.

UPSA who played the game without talismanic coach Emmanuel “Ghanaar” Essel Worbil on the sidelines did not seem too bothered by the veteran’s absence with Gideon stating

“No it didn’t affect us at all but we had someone to support and cheer us up”.

UPSA will play Ghana Technology University College in its opening game in Zone A and subsequently play Ho Polytechnic and Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) in the zone’s other games.

The UPAC Championship is supported by CAL Bank, MTN and Fanyogo in partnership with media outlets Basketballghana.com, TV 3, Y FM and Ghana Sports.
