Ghana Technology University College (GTUC-Kumasi) basketball team will complete the final phase of preparations for the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship qualifiers with a friendly game against local side Chiefs Basketball Club.
Zone D qualifiers will take place at Kumasi Polytechnic on Saturday March 19 with four teams, Kumasi Polytechnic, Garden City University College, Ghana Technology University College and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), primed to compete.
The third edition of the UPAC Championship, headlined by Rexona, has University of Development Studies (UDS) and University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) qualify to the quarter final by winning Zones B and C respectively.
Speaking to Basketballghana.com, GTUC Sports Chairman, and Derrick Okuadjo believes his team has prepared ideally for the championship. He said:
“We see the will to win to be important but we know that the will to prepare is vital through tedious days of training and we hope to attain a level worth celebrating.”
Participating in this year’s competition will be the first for GTUC-Kumasi in Ghana’s biggest tertiary basketball tournament. The young team will be up against all three teams in the zone who have rich experience playing in the Championship.
The 2016 UPAC Championship is headlined by Rexona, supported by MTN, CAL Bank and Fanyogo in partnership with Basketballghana.com, TV3, YFM and Ghana Sports Newspaper.
