Takoradi Polytechnic beat a hapless Cape-Coast Polytechnic team 66-31 to record its first win in Zone E of the ongoing 2016 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship which by University of Cape-Coast.
The Championship which is headlined by Rexona, is in the preliminary stages where teams across seven zones where teams compete for the top spot that automatically qualifies the team to the latter stage of the competition due to take place at the University of Ghana on April 14.
The die was cast right from the start of the game where Takoradi Polytechnic bossed their opponents around without any resistance. The dominance told at the end of the first half with T Poly winning the half 33-19.
Unlike in the previous game against University of Cape-Coast, Cape-Coast Polytechnic lacked the spark to mount any kind of challenge following recess. Players from the side were visibly tired after playing back to back games with just a 30 minute break between both games. The jumbled arrangement was due to 2011 finalists University of Education-Winneba withdrawal from the competition.
With much fresher legs, Takoradi Polytechnic had an easy time running their opponent off the court with its’ break neck speed game. In the end , it wasn’t even close to a contest and Cape-Coast Polytechnic miss on a trip to Accra for the quarter final games yet again.
Takoradi Poly will play University of Cape-Coast in the final game of the day with both teams needing another win to top the zone and qualify to the last eight of the championship.
