University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) exited the 2016 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship quarter finals after suffering heart breaking 61-63 loss to Marshalls University College after overtime.
The Zone C Champions lost on a spot in the final four following a second consecutive defeat in the ongoing Championship at the University of Ghana. The debutants marked its’ first ever appearance in the competition with an uninspired performance against Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) losing 38-63.
The team improved greatly in the second game as they made a strange to fathom yet incredible comeback where the team was down by as many as 20points at a certain point in the game but wied out the deficit and force the game into overtime.
UENR went flat in the final round as the team got clobbered 31-91 by Takoradi Polytechnic. The latter was in the hunt for a spot in the semi finals with Marshalls University College and KNUST also in contention for one of two qualifying tickets.
The team have come a long way from placing sixth team in the Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) Basketball competition to going unbeaten in winning Zone C preliminary qualifiers of Ghana’s biggest tertiary basketball tournament.
