Ghana Technology University College (GTUC-Accra) and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) have awarded Charles Annan and Emmanuel Ekow Amoako as best basketball player of the respective institutions.

Both players were awarded by the prestigious institutions as the educational calendar year runs down. Annan and Amoako played in the just ended Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.

Amoako was named Best Basketball Player of the Year at the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) Secretariat in KNUST after helping the institution’s team claim bronze in the aforementioned tournament.

Despite having a plethora of problems heading into the tourney including missing key players like Kwame Akrasi, KNUST managed to repeat a semi final appearance on the back of Amoako’s instrumental play and dynamic leadership.

The team however, failed to progress beyond the semi finals as KNUST fell 47-49 to eventual winners University of Ghana before beating Takoradi Polytechnic 48-45 to claim bronze.

Annan on the other hand, failed to get GTUC beyond the preliminary stage as the team failed to qualify out of Zone A which featured Pentecost University College, Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) and Ho Polytechnic.

GTUC made up for the disappointment with a solid performance in the PUSAG (Private Universities Students Association Games) Basketball competition where the team placed third ahead of Regent University College.
