Fire Service female team is in dire straits after suffering another loss in the Accra Basketball League (ABL) Women’s Division. The team lost 24-34 to Galaxy Ladies in Week Five of the 2016 season which took place at the Lebanon House in Tudu, Accra.

The loss condemned Fire Service to a fourth straight loss which definitely will station the team at the basement of the six team standings. Heading into the game, Fire ranked bottom in the standings amassing three points with a goal difference of minus 73.

Things looked to be heading in a positive direction for Fire as the team remained competitive through the first half losing 7-8 in the first quarter and 12-15 in the second quarter. However, Fire competitive juices seized flowing in the remaining to the frustration of Coach Ralph Ahaya, who earlier pinpointed a drop in production in the second half, was the main reason behind the team’s losses.

In the remaining quarters, a tired Nora Iddrisu played less as she handed ball handling duties to starting Point Guard Naa Adjei who played mostly at the shooting Guard position through the first half. Karine Quanum converted a three point attempt to begin the third quarter just as Joana Annanel did to end it.

Fire Center Nafisa Mumuni exited the game midway through the third failing to shake off an illness which bothered her before the game. Her absence gave Galaxy big Harriet Hayford a field day in the paint as her size drew fouls which she converted.

Fire Service plays Navy before Galaxy takes on Air Force on June 3 at the Prisons Court in Cantonments.
