An improved Galaxy side will be in the wars later today as it battles Air Force later today at the Prisons Court in Accra in the latest round of games in the Accra Basketball League (ABL). The game which was originally scheduled to take place on June 9, was postponed due to heavy rains which inundated the court rendering it unplayable.
The skies cleared up for last week’s round of games to be honored where Galaxy came back from an eight point deficit in the first half to beat Navy 36-34. Air Force on the other hand lost 29-48 to defending champions Braves of Customs.
Galaxy’s epic third quarter showing was different from what used to be the trend in previous games where the side looked good for a win in the early stages only to piss away leads in the second department of the game.
Its sole loss of the season to Braves was due to this; something Coach Hashim Brimah pointed out as “lack of stamina”. Against Navy, Galaxy was far superior than their opponents who crumbled at the behest of the ladies in red and black’s composure on the free throw line and perimeter defense.
Guards Karine Quarnum and Joana Annamel played good defense on Navy’s live wire Point Guard Maria Mensah leading to a couple of steals for Quarnum. Bigs Harriet Hayford, Naa Shika Moffat and Nancy Otibo played key roles during the crucial stretch by exploiting mismatches against the much smaller Navy side.
The win was more impressive considering Galaxy played the game without linchpin Selina Quaye.
