Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) Basketball Champions University of Ghana (UG) is set to compete in the All Africa University Games basketball competition on Tuesday. The team arrived in Johannesburg over the weekend in time for the official opening ceremony.

Speaking to Basketballghana.com from the team’s base, Sierra Hotel, UG Captain Aziz Abubakari was pleased with how things have turned out for his side since their arrival. He said:
“So far so good, we are at the Sierra Hotel Group, we had training and (we) looking forward to start the tournament on Tuesday”.

Coach Meme Falconer per reports gathered has joined the team in Johannesburg ahead of the competition. The talismanic coach was in the United States to witness Ben Bentil get drafted into the NBA as the first Ghanaian born player to do so.

Having added the UPAC (Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges) Basketball Championship to their GUSA win in January, team UG is considered a serious contender for the title.

The competition will be held between June 26 and July 2 at the University of Johannesburg and Tshwane University of Technology.

All Africa University Games, commonly known as the FASU Games is a multi sport university sport event organised every after 2 years.
