2016 Ghana Basketball Awards Most Valuable Male Player of the Year winner Suleman Abubakar extended Accra Polytechnic and Braves of Customs hold on the top award in Ghana to three straight editions.

The recently held Awards at the Best Western Premier Hotel was the third edition of the prestigious annual event that had Matilda Gordon also of Accra Polytechnic, dominate the female division by winning Tertiary and overall Female Player of the Year respectively.

Abubakar popularly known as “Big Time”, his win was the third time a member of Accra Polytechnic and Accra Basketball League outfit Braves of Customs had won the top prize. Combo Guard Baniba Dodzie won the maiden edition in 2013 before Abdul Mutaleeb Alhassan won the second edition in 2015.

Had Abubakar failed to make the grade, Braves was heavily represented in the category by Alhassan, who made the shortlist for a second year in a row and Hashim Brimah. University of Ghana and Adenta Leopards Forward Maxwell Mod was the sole outsider on the shortlist.

Mod did get some form of redemption by winning Tertiary Male Player of the Year, beating Abubakar and David Asingar of Marshalls University College to the title.

The world will be waiting to see if the streak can continue next year.
