Togo’s capital, Lome will host the 2016 FIBA Africa Zone Three Championship from October 21-30 in both men and women divisions.

The nine day tourney will serve as one of the qualifiers for the main FIBA Africa Club Championship. Zone Three President Colonel Sam Ahmedu confirmed the Togo Basketball Federation has indeed agreed to host the mini tournament.

“We are excited that the event will come up in Lome…It is a sign of better things to come in this zone. And in the same way, all the countries in the zone must ensure that their representatives turn up for the event” he said to Kwesesports.com

Teams from Nigeria, Ghana, Republic of Benin, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Liberia and Niger Republic are scheduled to bring forth teams to compete in the competition.

Ghana’s sole recognized league Accra Basketball League is yet to name a representative for the men’s division as the league is ongoing. However, Braves of Customs wrapped up winning another title in the women’s division but is yet to confirm its participation.

Nigeria’s representatives will be Kano Pillars and Customs in the men’s event, while First Bank and Dolphins will represent in the women’s division.

Angola’s Petro Atletico is the reigning champion having beaten fellow Angolan side Recreativo do Libolo 89-75.
