After news broke of Braves of Customs sudden withdrawal from the FIBA Zone Three Africa Championship, reasons behind the no show in the nine day tournament has began to surface as the fallout continues to unravel.

Basketballghana.com gathers, Braves’ failure to honor the competition is due to management’s decision to freeze money entitled to the team for the trip in a move closely tied to Ghana’s national and parliamentary elections slated for December 7 this year.

With the political scenery charging up ahead of December, state owned entities in the West African country like Customs, are likely to be on the receiving end of such shenanigans.

Braves absence compounds Ghana’s basketball plight as the country’s other representatives, Tema Youth and Braves Female side, also failed to make the trip.

Tema Coach Emmanuel Quaye stated in an interview with Ghana’s leading hoops portal, his side needed $10,000 to play in Togo. Braves Female side’s reason for pulling out is less clear as authorities have turned down the opportunity to speak on the matter.

The reigning Accra Basketball League Champions were expected in Togo to compete against representatives from West African countries including Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Nigeria and Mali.
