The Tema Community Basketball League had a winner over the weekend at the Community 4 Basketball Court as Nungua Coldstore beat Ashaiman Lions 69-59 to emerge champions of the maiden edition of the championship.
However, the exciting game, which had several heart throbbing sequences, couldn’t have concluded in the wee hours of the night without the aid of the newly fixed lighting system at the venue popularly known as the Chinese Court.
The newly installed lights, funded by National Democratic Congress Parliamentary Candidate for Tema Central Constituency, Ebi Bright, illuminated the court for the first time after several years of neglect which affected games at the court.
Thanks to the prospective parliamentarian’s effort-which forms part of a comprehensive plan to improve the lives of young individuals in the constituency through sports- and those of veteran players, the famed court has had a massive facelift in recent months.
A one day basketball tournament christened after the aspiring Member of Parliament’s name will take place on Sunday November 6 at the venue. Four teams are scheduled to play with two female teams completing the roster for the competition.
