Opoku Ware School and Prempeh College will renew their long standing rivalry in the final game of the ongoing Ashanti Regional Basketball Championship at Opoku Ware’s renovated court.

Both sides made the final fixture after recording 24-8 and 7-5 wins over Kumasi Anglican Senior High School (KASS) and T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School respectively in the semifinals.

In a battle of the losing semifinalists, Kumasi Anglican Senior high School have claimed the third position after beating T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School 10-8.

Opoku Ware produced a dominant performance in the second half to win comfortably over a very decent KASS side. Holding a mere 8-4 first half lead, the young men from the “Akatakyi3” land were in inspired form in the second to pull away from the opposing side.

Heralded trio of Emmanuel Agyapong, Emmanuel Opare and Harris were on fire in the half as each player dazzled to spark a hug 16-4 run to end the game.

Prempeh College on the other hand survived a boring and scrappy game to make the finals of the regionals and the national championship in the process. The side can count itself lucky following a slew of wasted scoring opportunities for KASS.

In the girls third place game however, Islamic Senior High School eked out a 6-4 win over KASS.
