University of Cape-Coast (UCC) has lost the final game of the 7th Mini Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Games Basketball competition after falling 56-75 to University of Ghana (UG).

The game which took place at UCC’s brand new gymnasium had the host trail by as many as 23 points heading to the third quarter.

Buoyed on by the home crowd, the host team launched a spirited fight in the ensuing quarter as it trimmed UG’s lead to 12 before an injury to starting Point Guard Ibrahim Mohammed snuffed out any chance of completing the turn around.

Emmanuel Wolff who had an average game converted a trademark three point shot to halt UCC’s run as field goals from Guards Joel Kwame Opoku and Lankai Blankson-Mills eased off the pressure.

Without the 2015 Tertiary Player of the Year nominee, UCC offered little threat in the final quarter en route to a silver medal. The side can take heart with its performance a year after placing third at the Main Games held at the University of Education-Winneba.

The side topped Group B before beating University of Development Studies (UDS 73-56) in the semi finals. UDS would go on to beat Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) 49-46 to clinch bronze.
