League Administrator Baafi.

Former Accra Basketball League (ABL) Administrator Benjamin Baafi has been honored with a minute silence by players, fans and officials gathered at the Lebanon House Court for the 2017 season tip off.

The former manager passed away on March 1 at the Korle-Bu Hospital in Ghana’s capital Accra after a protracted illness that forced him to let go many of his day to day activities as the league’s head. He was 54.

Prior to the season opening game between Baafi’s former team Braves of Customs and Tudu Galaxy, a moment of silence that span a minute was observed in his honor. All gathered at the Lebanon House Court stood up and went through the solemn exercise.

One of the league’s founding fathers Matthias Ocloo passed away a near fortnight prior to Baafi’s demise.

On the court however, proceedings were anything but solemn as home side Galaxy put defending champions Braves to the sword by beating them 31-29.

The hitherto unbeaten side was hit with a flurry of three point shots late in the final quarter to fall at the first hurdle this time around.

In the second game, Ghana Navy beat University of Ghana 41-26.
