Defending Accra Basketball League Champions Braves of Customs has started its title defense on a bad note. The team’s Male and Female sides have lost in their respective divisions in the opening game of the season with the female side losing 29-31 to Tudu Galaxy a week ago.

The male side followed the shock loss almost a week later as it fell 78-84 to Tema Youth in an enthralling game played at the Lebanon House.

Indeed, the headline game of Week 2 of the 2017 season did not disappoint as last year’s finalists delivered an absolute masterpiece that went into overtime for Youth to clinch the deserved victory.

For the teams, these losses are huge considering neither side lost a game last year en route to win yet another set of league titles.

Many have suggested the teams’ flawed performances in the new season are due to the sudden demise of Ghana Revenue Authority Director of Sports and former Accra League Administrator Benjamin Baafi. The veteran manager passed away on March 1 and was 54.

Further disappointment followed as Ghana Navy’s tie against league new boys Adenta Leopards.
