The number of slots available at this year’s Women’s AfroBasket Championship has reduced to three in light of Egypt’s qualification to the Championship which will be held in Mali’s capital, Bamako between September 15 and 24.

The Egyptian National Women’s Team saw off competition from Uganda and Kenya in the qualifiers.

The North African side beat Kenya before delivering a 92-68 win over Uganda to book its place in the biannual event.

With qualification secured, Egypt becomes the seventh team who will be in Mali to battle for the chance to unseat defending champions Senegal.

The final draw for the Championship will be done on May 27 when qualifiers wrap up.

The West African side who played in last year’s Olympics and the likes of power house Angola, Mozambique, Nigeria and 2015 finalist Cameroon have booked their places in Bamako.

Winners and runners up of the competition will qualify to the 2018 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup.
