University of Ghana (UG) has retained the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship by beating Marshalls University College 41-23 in the final game of the 2017 edition.

UG won last year’s edition beating record winners Accra Technical University in a crunch game.

Marshalls University College made it to the final game with a series of heart stopping plays but fell flat at the final stage.

Marshalls performance in the final mirrored the game as a whole as what was billed to be an extremely entertaining game fell short of the expectations.

Trailing seven points in the opening minutes proved too much for Marshalls to recover; committing several turnovers didn’t help matters as well.

UG Joshua Akai produced an MVP performance to thrill the largely partisan crowd. The experienced Guard set his teammates for wide open layups with dizzying passes and top ball handling plays.

UG’s win matches Accra Technical University’s (ATU) back to back triumph in 2011 and 2015. ATU placed third by beating University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) 42-20 in the preceding game.
