ATU’s Al;hassan crosses over against UENR in the UPAC quarterfinals.

Accra Technical University (ATU) won the 2015 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship and crowned off a wonderful year with wins in the West Africa Polytechnics Association Games (WAPOGHA) and GHAPSA (Ghana Polytechnic Sports Association (GHAPSA) Games.

However, ATU has since failed to win two UPAC titles since 2015. After missing out on another gold medal in 2016 under controversial circumstances, the side was only able to clinch bronze in the 2017 edition of the UPAC Championship.

While the core of Ghana Basketball Overall MVP winners Suleman Abubakar and Abdul Mutalib Alhassan the team remains intact, the team has a host of new faces who are gradually feeling themselves into the team.

Point Guard Taufick Mohamme, Emmanuel Nii Lamptey and Emmanuel Nii Aryee are among several players who are finding their feet in the team.

However, failing to win a Championship the past years could energize rivals Takoradi Technical University to make a strong run at unseating the Giants.

This year’s GHAPSA Games was officially opened on April 15.
