Marshalls won the 2017 PUSAG just days earlier.
UNER were cliched fourth.
The 2017 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship recently ended with University of Ghana (UG) winning the enviable crown for the second straight year. In the two day knockout phase, some teams excelled beyond expectations while others flew under the radar.

Basketballghana.com takes a look at some the top performing teams in the just ended competition.

University of Ghana

The back to back Champions deserve to be in this list in the wake of the team’s impressive showing in the tournament. UG dominated the field right from the preliminary qualifiers in Zone D and maintained it in the latter stages.

More impressive is the team’s ability to withstand the effects of losing as many as seven players from the 2016 roster and win the title for the second time in three years.

Marshalls University College

Marshalls wonderful debut in the competition (2015) where the side placed fourth wobbled the following year but rebounded in the best way by making it to the final game before losing23-41 to UG.

The final game looked out of reach for Marshalls who competed and won the 2017 PUSAG competition hours before playing its first quarterfinal game against University of Cape-Coast.

University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR)

After showing many signs of naivety in its quarterfinal debut last year, UENR moved a step further by making the final four in the 2017 edition before losing to eventual winners UG and two time winners Accra Technical University.

A fourth place finish for one of the up and coming sides in Ghana is a feat worthy of recognition.
