However, Golden State has been without its architect for the majority of the playoffs. Because of a recurring back injury Kerr has been sidelined since the first-round sweep over the Trail Blazers, though the Warriors have remained undefeated, disposing of the Western Conference in the process, without him. Even so, they would like their coach back and happy as soon as possible. When that will be? Not even Kerr knows.
“Just day-by-day,” Kerr told The Undefeated’s Marc Spears, when asked about his status after the Warriors completed a sweep of the San Antonio Spurs on Monday night in the Western Conference finals.” via ESPN
There was hope Kerr would be back sometime soon after he started traveling with the team. However, that doesn’t appear to be the case as Kerr has not made sufficient progress.
“Kerr was able to travel with the team for the first time since taking an indefinite leave of absence on April 23. However, sources told ESPN that he’s still in a significant amount of pain and discomfort and that his return to traveling with the team should not be read as an indication of progress.”
Since the NBA Finals don’t start until June 1, there is hope Kerr returns, though reports like this do not breed optimism. Mike Brown has stayed the course, but he likely would admit that Golden State wants to see its coach back.
