President of Togo’s Basketball Federation Andre Goungou has stated he is extremely proud his country is the first African country to host the FIBA 3×3 Cup on the continent.

He made the statement in an interview with FIBA.com prior to the start of the three day event which tips off on Friday November 3 and ends on November 5.

This is the first ever FIBA sanctioned 3×3 event in Africa with the competition already held in in several countries in previous years.

Writing its name in the history, Goungou is adamant the competition is a big reflection on the West African country’s affection for the sport’s mini format.

“We are proud and honored to become the first national federation to host the FIBA 3×3 Africa Cup…3×3 has become extremely popular in the country and we are confident that the local fans will come in numbers and create a special atmosphere for the delegations coming from all over the continent” he said.

FIBA Africa President Hamane Niang added, “It is a great satisfaction for us to have the first edition of the FIBA 3×3 Africa Cup and to bring it to Togo”.

12 and 10 teams in the male and female categories respectively will compete in the Championship including Ghana.
