Augustine’s (green) lost gallantly to Mfantsipim

Mfantsipim School has beaten arch rival St. Augustine’s College 20-18 in the final game of the Central Regional Championship to win the title.

The crunch game played at the Robert Mensah Stadium in Cape-Coast thrilled as the respective table toppers at the preliminary stage clashed.

Games between the sides rarely disappoint and the latest version of this storied rivalry didn’t either as Mfantsipim edged a low scoring first half courtesy an 8-6 first half lead.

However, the game’s tensed atmosphere gave way to better ball handling, passing and shooting as both teams flexed their immense potential ahead of the national games with Coaches of either side expressing the need to work on a few rough edges.

Augustine’s will rue missed chances from the charity stripe as the side failed to punish Mfantsipim for giving away fouls on the hard driving Augustine’s players.

Both teams have sealed their spots at the main competition due for Accra from January 4-6, 2018 at the El-Wak Stadium.

Adisadel College registered a close 27-25 win over Insaniyya Senior High School to finish third in the tournament.
