Heavy weights Mfantsipim School and St. Augustine’s College will have the chance to play a repeat final game after both teams secured qualification to the Sprite Ball Championship.

The next edition of Ghana’s National High School Basketball Championship is due to take place at the El Wak Stadium in Accra from January 4-6, 2018 with 26 schools set to compete.

Both teams will be on the 26 team roster after qualifying to represent the Central Region by featuring at the regional final played yesterday at the Robert Mensah Stadium in Cape-Coast.

Mfantsipim beat Augustine’s 20-18 to clinch the regional title while Adisadel College produced a similar close win by piping Insaniyya Senior High School 27-25 to place third.

Augustine’s and Mfantsipim have a long historic rivalry which was played out on the national stage at the January 2016 edition of Sprite Ball which Augustine’s won.

However, after falling in the last pair of trips to finals, Mfantsipim has targeted winning the ultimate prize per Coach Isaac Mensah; Mfantsipim has won four national championships.

Reigning national champion Wesley Girls High School and former winner Aggrey Memorial Mount Zion School will represent in the female division.
