This year’s Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Games Basketball competition has tipped off with University of Ghana (UG) dominating proceedings.

The defending champions of the biannual multi sport competition opened its title defense with a huge 60-12 win over University of Mines and Technology (UMAT).

Ghana’s premier tertiary institution’s male basketball team romped to a big lead before Coach Baba Samora withdrew most of his starters in the second half.

The American tactician stated in an interview UMAT’s “2-3” defensive setup was a reason behind the large victory margin.

The team is set to face a tougher test later today as it prepares to play University of Professional Studies (UPSA) in a rematch of the 2016 final game.

UPSA lost 61-73 to University of Education-Winneba (UEW) in its first game of the competition and need a win to improve its chances of progressing to the next stage.

Below is a full list of results played on Day One of the male division:
KNUST 36-43 UCC
UPSA 61-73 UEW
UDS 37-32 UENR
UMAT 12-60 UG
