Three teams participating in the Global Sporting Platform (GSP) Basketball League will compete in this year’s Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.

University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Catholic University College, Ghana (CUCG) Saints and Sunyani Technical University (STU) will play in Zone 4 for a place in the Championship’s quarterfinals.

STU will host the games with UENR heading to the Friday March 16 event as defending champions; UENR placed fourth at the national competition.

However, over the weekend in Sunyani, all three teams competed in league games played at the Eubett Court.

Defending league champions UENR clinched a 34-32 win over STU while CUCG Saints fell 13-68 to former league champions Suncity Braves.

UENR is second while STU and CUCG Saints occupy sixth and seventh spots respectively in the eight team standings.

STU will be hoping to emulate UENR who have won previous UPAC zonal titles as host; only the zone’s winner makes it to the next round of Ghana’s most prestigious tertiary basketball competition.
