Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has joined an elite group by qualifying to this year’s Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship quarterfinals.

The team makes a return to Accra next month to compete for the nation’s most prestigious tertiary basketball title.

KNUST joins All Nations University College, University of Education-Winneba (UEW) and Takoradi Technical University as teams through to the next stage of the tournament.

KNUST topped Zone 5 which concluded a few hours ago at Kumasi Technical University with Garden City University College competing.

However, neither the host institution nor Garden City has progressed as only zone winners make it to the next phase.

KNUST beat Garden City 100-4 and Kumasi Technical 39-13 to record a flawless campaign in the zone; Kumasi Technical beat Garden City 55-14.

After placing second in Accra in 2015, KNUST has been on a slide and failed to qualify to the semifinals of the 2017 Championship.

Its win over Garden City is the biggest recorded in the competition’s history.
