Radford University player battles two UG players for a rebound

Defending UPAC Champion University of Ghana (UG) has won Zone 8 of this year’s competition with three straight wins.

UG who doubled as host of the zonal competition ended the flawless run with a 39-32 win over Radford University College.

The team had beaten Pentecost University College and Central University in the previous games before clinching the seven point win.

UG who won the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship in 2016 and 2017, topped Pentecost 41-16 and Central University 52-21.

Radford lost 31-32 to Central University after beating Pentecost 20-14 in the opening round before attempting the tough challenge of beating UG who are yet to lose a game since clinching the 2016 UPAC title.

The team battled hard from a ten point deficit to trail by three (21-24) at the end of the third quarter but a seven point run from UG in the opening minutes of the final quarter proved to be the difference.

UG qualifies to the national competition which will be played out from April 12-14.
