Sunyani Technical University (STU) will be in Ghana’s capital, Accra later this week to play in the knockout stage of this year’s Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.

However, the team will be doing so on the back of mixed results in the GSP Basketball League in Sunyani over the weekend.

The team beat LIR Royals 61-37 in Week 11 but suffered 34-41 loss to Suncity Braves in Week 12; Braves leads the league standings.

STU has been drawn in Group B of the celebrated tertiary institutions tournament which takes place from April 12-14 at University of Ghana.

Accra Technical University (ATU), All Nations University College and University of Education-Winneba (UEW) are housed in the group with STU.

ATU has won the competition in 2011 and 2015 and is aiming for a third crown after striking out in recent editions.

This is the first time since 2011 Sunyani Technical is competing in the knockout phase; the team topped Zone 4 beating University of Energy and Natural Resources in the process.
