After failing to qualify to the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship knockout stage for several years, beating that mark this year was a statement according to University of Education-Winneba (UEW) Point Guard Jeffrey Djimatey.

UEW topped Zone 3 in this year’s preliminary stage to get drawn in Group B for the quarterfinals which takes place from April 12-14 at the University of Ghana (UG).

UEW is up against Accra Technical University, All Nations University College and Sunyani Technical University for the two semifinal spots in the group.

Since 2011, UEW has no made it past the preliminary stage in the UPAC competition until early this year where it beat the likes of Regent University College of Science and Technology to top Zone 3.

“We had to come again…and this time around it was bound that we needed to win, qualify and make a statement and I think we made a statement” he said.

Defending UPAC Champions UG is in Group A with Knwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana Technology University College and Takoardi Technical University.
