Sunyani Technical University (STU) will be making its first appearance in the quarterfinals of the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship since 2011 later today.

The team managed to clinch Zone 4’s sole spot in the 2018 edition after topping big side University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) 23-8 in the deciding game.

The man widely credited for the emphatic transformation is Coach Andrew Quansah who took over coaching duties a few weeks before the zonal competition.

Under his guidance, STU managed to clinch the coveted zonal title and progress to the national games which takes place from April 12-14 at the University of Ghana.

While STU is quite new to the knockout phase of the competition, Quansah isn’t after qualifying UENR to two straight quarterfinals in 2016 and 2017.

In the 2017 edition, UENR beat the odds to place fourth in a remarkable campaign that saw the Brong-Ahafo based institution beat out the likes of University of Cape-Coast and KNUST.

STU is yet to make it beyond the quarterfinals which sets the stage for another big run for the soft spoken tactician.
