The University of Ghana (UG) has made an encouraging start to the 2018 All Africa University Games (FASU) taking place in Ethiopia.

Ghana’s premier tertiary institution’s Male Basketball Team is following the winning trend with a couple of positive outcomes in the division.

The Defending African Champions beat Mekelle University 57-9 in the opening game and added a 69-20 win over Welkirt University in the second game.

As a result, UG is in prime position to qualify from Group B to the knockout stage where the likes of Addis Ababa Science and Technology University from Group A.

UG’s Male Team won the 2016 edition beating the likes of Midland University from Zimbabwe to the crown in Johannesburg, South Africa.

This is the institution’s first defense of the title and a third win later this week extends the team’s winning run in the competition.

Despite coaching changes and player turnover, the team has maintained its high standards by winning this year’s UPAC and GUSA Basketball titles.
