Morocco Basketball has been enjoying a big run of success since the end of last year and through the first half of this year.

The North African nation’s AS Sale won the 2017 FIBA Africa Club Championship with the trophy being the AS’s first continental title.

The 2017 Club Championship was held in Tunisia in December and provided enough momentum to push the national team to success later.

Morocco recovered from a poor start in the 2019 World Cup qualifiers in November last year recording just a win in three games to book a spot in the final round of qualification.

The team beat Angola and Democratic Republic of Congo but lost its final game to Group C Host Egypt to place second in the group. The win ensured Egypt remains in contention for a place in China next year while eliminating Congo.

The change in fortune has not gone unnoticed and National Team Coach Said El Bouzidi stated to FIBA, “It is true that we are having some good success lately but we have to keep working hard because when you look at the big nations like Angola, they have achieved a lot by being consistent”.
