Ghana remained in the hunt for a place at the main African 3×3 Championship before playing its final game in the Men’s Division of the just concluded FIBA Zone 3 Championship in Cotonou, Benin.

However, the team fell 19-21 per reports reaching Basketballghana.com against Mauritania to effectively end any hopes of making it to the next stage. Defending Champions Nigeria progressed.

The competition took place over a two day period from August 16 to August 17 and fancied nations like Ivory Coast qualify to the Africa Championship.

Ghana lost in similar close fashion to Gambia and Mali; Gambia beat Ghana 19-16 while Mali got past Ghana via an 18-11 win in the Men’s Division.

The story remained same in the Women’s Division as Ghana missed out on one of the tickets to the African Championship with Ivory Coast again booking a spot.

Ivory Coast clinched a 14-4 win over its neighboring nation after Mali beat Ghana 20-7 in the first game for either side.

Ghana’s contingent is set to return this weekend.
