The beginning of September marks the countdown to the commencement of this year’s FIBA Women’s World Cup in Spain.

The 2018 edition of the event will be played from September 22-30 with USA as defending champions and favorites to win the title.

It also marks the countdown to Africa’s representatives, Nigeria and Senegal, attempt progressing beyond the group stages.

Nigeria is in Group B and takes on Argentina, Australia and Turkey in a tough group for the reigning African Champions.

The team’s preparations were disrupted last month when Nigeria’s Basketball Federation parted ways with Coach Sam Vincent and replaced him with Otis Humphrey.

Concerns have been raised about the timing of the Coaching change but Federation Head Musa Kida dispelled that notion.

Vincent led Nigeria to the AfroBasket Championship title and former NBA Assistant with Sacramento Kings, Humphrey has a huge task ahead.

Senegal is in Group D with USA, Latvia and China in an equally tough group for the record AfroBasket winners who came second to Nigeria in 2017.
