Senegal and Nigeria lost in the first round of games in this year’s Women’s World Cup which tipped off in Tenerife, Spain on Saturday.

African Champions Nigeria lost 68-86 to Australia while Senegal play well but ended up losing 67-87 to defending champions USA.

Evelyn Akhator and Josephine Kalu recorded 21 points and 15 points respectively for Nigeria but had little help as the remaining members of the roster failed to score in double digits.

Australia was led by Liz Cambage who scored 34 points in the win in just 26 minutes and added 12 rebounds as D’Tigress struggled to contain the 6 foot 8 inch Center.

Record winners of the African Nations Championship Senegal had Khairy Sarr and Astou Traore score 18 and 13 points respectively in the loss to USA.

Five time world champions USA had a balanced offensive output as four players including 2018 WNBA MVP and Champion Breanna Stewart score 14 points.
