Africa’s representatives at the just ended FIBA Women’s World Cup have been ranked in the top 20 places in the latest World rankings released.

Senegal and Nigeria played in Spain late last month in the world event USA won for a record extending tenth time in the competition’s history.

African Champions Nigeria made the biggest jump after becoming the first nation from the continent to make the quarterfinals.

Nigeria moved 15 places to rank 19th in the world after recording three wins including a 74-68 win over top 10 ranked Turkey.

Senegal holds the records for most African Nations Championship (AfroBasket) titles won and ranks two places ahead of Nigeria in 17th place.

Despite recording a win via a 70-69 result over Latvia and failing to make the quarters, Senegal stayed put on the rankings.

This is a major progress for the African nations especially who did not have a win at the World Cup to its credit prior to last month’s competition.

USA, Spain and Australia make the top 3.
