Spartans Basketball Club recorded the biggest win in Week 8 of the 2018-2019 GSP Basketball League following a 43-42 win over Suncity Braves.

Spartans clinched the one point win over the defending league champions in overtime this past week at the Sunyani Technical University (STU).

The loss coupled with a huge 40-17 win for Young Boys over West Siders means Braves lead in the standings has been reduced to a single point.

Suncity has 15 points from winning seven of eight games as the league heads to the end of the first round. Braves are a point and a position above Young Boys.

The league debutant has been in fine form and its big 23 point win gives the side 14 points and is ahead of fellow newbies Spartans due to a better goal difference.

League host STU is not far off the top three as the tertiary side has 12 points from winning five of seven games. The team has an outstanding game against LIR Royals to honour.

A top three side last season, Royals have found competing in the current campaign tough and slipped to the bottom of the ten team standings.

However, LIR has two outstanding games including a tie against Desert Rabbits to play which could have them move up positions. Below is a breakdown of the standings:

Braves
Team P W L PTS
Suncity Braves 8 7 1 15
Young Boys 8 7 1 14
Spartans 8 6 2 14
STU 7 5 2 12
Techiman Merchants 8 3 5 11
Desert Rabbits 6 3 3 9
West Siders 8 1 7 9
CUCG Saints 7 2 5 8
Baracks Scorpions 8 1 7 8
LIR Royals 6 2 4 7
