Agosto Coach Marcelo
Angola Basketball Club Primeiro do Agosto is in line to feature in the 2019 Africa Basketball League (AfroLeague) with the aim of ending a six year trophyless run in the continent’s showpiece basketball club event.

The AfroLeague-hitherto known as Africa Champions Club- is due to commence in Group C from February 8-10 in Cairo, Egypt.

Agosto has been drawn in the group alongside 2017 winners Al Ahly form Egypt, Ferroviario de Beira from Mozambique and REG from Rwanda.

The Angolan is the most successful club on the continent but has not the title in six years; the team won eight titles in an 11 year period.

However, other teams including defending Champions AS Sale from Morocco have changed the narrative and Agosto wants to get back to the top according to Coach Paulo Machedo.

“It’s been six years since we last won this competition. D’Agosto has made some investments to build a competitive team…we want to win not only the Angolan League and the National Cup, but also hope to win the new FIBA Africa Basketball League” he said in a chat with FIBA.
