The first ever African Beach Games has officially opened following the conclusion of the opening ceremony this weekend in host nation Cape Verde.

Popularly known as the SAL Games, the continental tournament is being organized for the first time with athletes expected to compete in a host of sports disciplines including 3×3 Basketball.

Ghana’s National Male Team will compete in the West African island nation later this week and is expected to fly out of Ghana early on Monday, June 17.

Athletes flew out of the country in batches and members of the 3×3 basketball team will join the final batch to leave the Kotoka International Airport early tomorrow. They scheduled to transit through Senegal and land in Cape Verde on Tuesday.

3×3 Basketball is one of 11 disciplines at the inaugural competition and it is the first major tournament for Ghana’s team this year.

It comes after Ghana’s Male 3×3 Team competed in last year’s African 3×3 Basketball Championship and is expected to challenge for a medal.
