Senegal Senior Men’s National Team and Minnesota Timberwolves Center Gorgui Dieng is the latest key personality to laud the efforts of Senegal’s Senior Women’s National Team at this year’s FIBA Women’s Africa Basketball Championship (AfroBasket).

This year’s edition of the biannual competition is taking place in Senegal’s Dakar Arena with 12 nations competing in the brand new arena.

The competition commenced on Sunday, August 9 and is scheduled to come to a close on Sunday, August 18 with the top ranked six teams progressing to a prequalifying tournament for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Speaking to FIBA after witnessing Senegal beat Ivory Coast 77-36 in the opening round, Dieng was impressed with the team’s organization stating:

“They have a good team and look very organized. I think they need to get tougher to go all the way. In Africa, it is not just about talent. It is way more than that. Toughness is a big part of it”.

11 time champions Senegal take on Egypt later tonight at 19:00 GMT.
