Ghanaian-Italian Small Forward Awudu Abass is in line to be named in the final roster for Italy’s Senior Men’s Basketball Team for the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

This year’s World Cup takes place in China from August 31 to September 15 and has 32 nations competing. USA is the defending champion.

Italy’s roster stands at 14 and two more players will get cut on Thursday, August 29 when the final roster is announced. A host of competing nations including Nigeria, Brazil and France have named their 12 man team for the tournament.

After competing for Italy at several stages including the gold medal winning team at the 2013 Under 20 European Championship, Abass is ina tough battle to make the team.

Italy is coming off an 82-88 loss to New Zealand in a friendly game in China that had veterans Danilo Gallinari and Marco Belinelli score22 and 19 points respectively.

Abass, born in Italy, plays for Basket Brescia Leonessa and his father is from Ghana.
