San Diego State University Men’s Basketball Coach Brian Dutcher has expressed optimism about Ghanaian defender Nathan Mensah’s return from injury.

He expressed this sentiment in an interview with San Diego Union Tribune as the Center/ Power Forward continues his recovery from a thumb injury.

Mensah tore ligaments in his thumb in the offseason and had surgery; he is expected to return to the team in November with the US College Basketball season due to commence later this month.

This isn’t the first time the second year player will miss time with the team after he suffered a similar injury in his freshman year last season. Mensah’s play showed signs of improvement in the second half of the season.

“I hate for him to miss any practice but it hurt him more last year as a freshman than it would with a year of (college) competition under his belt. Conditioning won’t be an issue, just game timing” Dutcher said.

Mensah and fellow Ghanaian Joel Mensah will play in their second year at San Diego this season.
