KNUST (white) v UG at the 2020 GUSA

Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) was on the verge of winning gold at the 2020 Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Games but failing to deal with ghosts from the past cost the team the ultimate spot at the biannual games.

KNUST lost a crucial game 53-54 to 2020 GUSA Games host University of Ghana (UG) despite leading 32-19 and having the game’s lead (49-47) with 1:12 seconds remaining in the game. UG topped the division.

The close loss came via easily the best game of the competition which run from January 5 to January 19 with 11 public university teams competing.

This was KNUST’s third loss to UG in heartbreaking fashion with the other losses coming in the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.

At the 2016 UPAC edition, KNUST lost 47-49 to UG at the semifinal stage as the latter marched to its first title in the tournament. Two years later, KNUST was free throw away from clinching a crucial win at the preliminary stage.
