Koforidua Technical celebrate winning 2019 Zonal title

Koforidua Technical University has lost the opening game of the 2020 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.

The 2019 Zonal One Champions lost 25-43 to Radford University College at the Pope John Senior High School earlier today to get its run in the 2020 edition off to a poor start.

There was little reason to doubt Koforidua’s chances of progressing in this year’s competition after battling Radford well through three quarters.

Michael Turkson, Derrick Quansah, Frank Wobil and Jordan Agbogedeno were the main catalysts behind a strong performance but Koforidua bottomed out in the final quarter.

Koforidua lost out on the boards as Radford Center Mubarak Alhassan and swingman Godwin Tetteh scored off offensive rebounds.

The loss means Koforidua Technical must beat All Nations University College to stand a chance of progressing to the national competition scheduled to run from April 16-18 in Ghana’s capital, Accra.

University of Ghana (UG) is the defending champion and the 2020 UPAC is sponsored by CAL Bank, MTN and Decathlon.
