GSP Basketball League General Secretary Michael Nketiah has stated the league suspension is likely to affect student athletes in the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.

He made this assertion in a statement released earlier this week regarding the league’s preventive measure on the spread of the Corona Virus.

The 2019-2020 campaign has been suspended until further notice because of the disease which has affected 191 people in Ghana and caused five deaths at the time of writing.

Like other basketball competitions, the 2020 UPAC is on hold because of the Virus and has two GSP teams due to compete in Zone Four when the tournament resumes.

“GSP management believes it (the suspension) will affect player performance for the league and also other student basketball competitions like the UPAC competition” Nketiah said.

The league was nine weeks in before the suspension took effect with Young Boys leading the standings and two time league winners Suncity Braves in second place. The 2019-2020 campaign has eight teams competing for the title.
